How to compare two Thai cities properly

A city comparison is not just a cheaper-rent contest. The right city is the one that supports the life you will actually live, especially if your income is in pounds and your spending is in baht.

Quick sorting rules

Choose Bangkok if access matters most

Bangkok usually wins on hospitals, flights, work, schools, transport depth and big-city convenience. The trade-off is rent pressure, heat, pace and lifestyle leakage.

Choose Chiang Mai if margin matters most

Chiang Mai often gives a calmer routine and more monthly room, especially for retirees. The caveat is seasonal air quality and fewer big-city backups.

Choose Pattaya if convenience and coast matter

Pattaya has beach access, Bangkok access and a large expat machine. It can be practical, but tourist-zone habits can make it expensive fast.

Choose Krabi if scenery is the point

Krabi is beautiful, but long-stay life can involve transport friction, tourist premiums and thinner infrastructure than bigger expat bases.
