This guide has been rebuilt into the current The Baht format and checked on 23 May 2026. It keeps the practical planning focus while pointing readers toward newer live-rate, visa, banking and transfer pages where those are more current.

The big four costs

Flights, accommodation, food and transport decide most holiday budgets. Activities, drinks, islands, taxis and shopping decide whether the final number stays sensible or runs away.

A Bangkok-and-Chiang-Mai trip behaves differently from Phuket, Samui or Krabi. Beach destinations usually make it easier to spend quickly.

Cash and cards

Use a travel card with clear overseas terms where cards are accepted, but keep baht for markets, taxis, small restaurants and tips. Thai ATM fees make small frequent withdrawals expensive.

If you exchange cash, compare the board rate with the mid-market reference and avoid airport convenience unless the amount is small.

Budget honestly

The cheapest possible Thailand trip is not the same as the trip most people actually want. Build a realistic daily range, add a reserve, and avoid planning every day at the minimum.

For a two-week number, the current The Baht travel-money guide is the better live companion to this restored URL.
